Owaisi Rejects Z Category Security
Owaisi rejects Z Category Security and Demands UAPA For Shooters
AIMIM commander Asaduddin Owaisi rejected "Z category" protection granted by the Centre on Friday, alleging that he "doesn't fear death" a day after his convoy was ambushed. Owaisi, on the other hand, urged that the perpetrators of the incident be charged under the UAPA. The AIMIM leader demanded "justice" and urged the government to "put an end to hate and radicalization."
"I am not afraid of dying. I refuse Z-category security; instead, make me a 'A' citizen. I'm not going to stay silent. Please,"Asaduddin Owaisi, an AIMIM MP, said in the Lok Sabha during the winter session of Parliament.
The Centre had earlier in the day provided Asaduddin Owaisi with 'Z' category protection, a day after his convoy was ambushed in the national capital. While returning from the election campaign in Meerut, Western Uttar Pradesh, the AIMIM chief's convoy was wounded by gunfire on Thursday evening. The incident occurred near Delhi, at a toll plaza.
According to police sources, the shooters abandoned their firearms and fled. "After a poll event in Kithaur, Meerut, I was on my way to Delhi. Two people shot three to four rounds of bullets at my vehicle near the Chhajarsi toll plaza; there were three or four of them "According to Owaisi, he told the reporters.
His car tyres were punctured, but no one was hurt. In a different car, the MP left the area.
He then tweeted on social media, "We are all safe."
While campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh election, which begins on February 10, the AIMIM Chief addressed a public assembly in Meerut.
The first of seven-phase elections in Uttar Pradesh will take place on February 10 in the western section of the state.
